Privacy

Video Browser is a web browser. This page explains what it stores, what it sends, and who receives it. It is written to be checked against the app's behaviour rather than to be reassuring.

The short version

  • There is no account and no sign-in.
  • There is no analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting service in the app.
  • Your browsing history, bookmarks, saved pages and settings are stored on your device and are never uploaded to us.
  • We — the developer — receive no data about you at all.
  • Browsing the web does, however, send data to the sites you visit and to a small number of third-party services listed below. That is unavoidable in any browser, and the specifics are set out honestly here.

What is stored on your device

All of the following stays in the app's private storage on your iPhone or iPad. It is not transmitted anywhere.

  • Browsing history — page addresses, titles and times.
  • Bookmarks and favourites, including any folders you create.
  • Saved pages and media in your Library, for offline reading.
  • Open tabs, so they can be restored. Private tabs are never written to disk.
  • Settings and preferences.
  • Cookies and website data set by the sites you visit, handled by iOS in the standard way.

You can delete any of this at any time in Settings → Privacy, or have the app clear history, cookies or site data automatically every time you leave. Deleting the app removes all of it.

What leaves your device, and to whom

Websites you visit

When you open a page, your device contacts that website directly, exactly as any browser does. That site receives your IP address and whatever your request contains. We are not involved in and have no visibility into that connection.

Your chosen search engine

Search terms you type are sent to the search engine selected in Settings → Search engine. If search suggestions are switched on, what you type is also sent as you type it, so suggestions can come back. Depending on your choice, that provider is Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Startpage, Yandex, Baidu, Naver, or a custom address you enter yourself. Their privacy policy governs what they do with it. You can turn suggestions off in Settings.

Site icons

The small icons shown next to entries in your bookmarks, history and start page are fetched from Google's public favicon service. To fetch an icon, the domain name of that entry is sent to Google — for example example.com. The full address, the page title and the time of your visit are not sent. Trending videos

The Trending tab requests a public list of popular videos from Dailymotion's API. This request contains no information about you and is not made unless you open that screen.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Your payment details are never seen by, or sent to, this app or its developer. We receive only Apple's anonymous confirmation that a subscription is active.

Files you choose to save

When you save a page or a video, the request goes directly to the site hosting it. Nothing about what you save is reported anywhere.

What does not happen

  • No advertising, and no advertising identifier is read.
  • No cross-site or cross-app tracking. The app does not ask for tracking permission because it has nothing to track you with.
  • No profile of you is built, sold, or shared.
  • The tracker-blocking list is bundled inside the app. Checking a request against it happens entirely on your device — no lookup is sent anywhere.

Turning it off

If you would rather no domain names reached Google's icon service, keep your bookmarks and start-page favourites empty and clear your history — entries with no icon to fetch generate no request. A setting to disable icon fetching outright is planned.

Children

Video Browser gives unrestricted access to the web and is rated 17+. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — of any age — because we do not collect information at all.

Your rights

Rights such as access, correction, portability and erasure exist to let you get at data a company holds about you. We hold none. Everything the app knows about you is on your device, under your control, and is deleted with the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
